Bring in the Sibs
Fifteen year old Inganam* lives in Johannesburg’s Alexandra Township with her mother and younger siblings and, like many of her peers, is serious about her studies but lacks the support she needs to thrive.
English, Mathematics and Science are among her favourite subjects and, in preparation for tenth grade – which is the start of the senior phase of high school in South Africa – she joined Infinite Family to gain access to a safe place where she could do her homework and research, get support with her studies, and have someone to turn to when challenges arose.
From the moment she walked into our Launch Pad at Realogile High School, Kefentse says she was met with a warm welcome and soon discovered that Infinite Family connects its members with Video Mentors who are dedicated to their growth and wellbeing.
In March last year, she was matched with her South African mentor, Claudia, who she describes as a kind and caring person and someone she genuinely loves and trusts.
She says she loves the freedom to talk about anything and, not only does the open, supportive relationship they share motivate her to show up devotedly for their video calls every week, but now it has moved Inganam to encourage her younger sister to join Infinite Family too!
In a beautiful, full-circle moment, Inganam says that now she’s experienced the difference that mentorship and community can make, she wants her little sister to benefit from the same support, guidance, and sense of belonging that has meant so much to her.
