Onward and Upward!
After the year we’ve all had, it brings a lump to the throat to remember the broad grins on our Net Buddies faces before Covid-19 made it so much harder for them to succeed. Not only did school get shut down (meaning their access to technology, and online learning material, came to a halt) but the economic smackdown hit them even harder than most. Yet, against ALL odds, once again, every one of our graduating Seniors qualified for College!
Take a good look at these bright-eyed teens. They represent hundreds of Black South Africans and their families who are part of our Infinite Family and were able to stay safe, healthy and focused on their High School studies thanks to YOU and your donations.
However, just as the virus is changing, we are being called to adapt how we help unemployed and undereducated young adults make their way in the world through education. Nelson Mandela called it “the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world” and it’s also the surest way to overcome the racist legacy of apartheid by eliminating poverty, providing stability and promoting economic independence. A degree increases a young Black South Africa’s earning power by a staggering 500%.
As traditional channels close, Infinite Family is working to help our new High School alums access alternative, online opportunities to educate and upskill themselves out of poverty and obtain college degrees that will lead them to the brighter, independent futures they’re so determined to achieve.
