Global Skills Start Here

Infinite Family’s teens distinguish themselves in many ways, the first of which is by going against widespread norms in their communities and staying in school through 12th grade. Then they have the audacity to aspire to continue on to college. Imagine how frustrating it is, after working so hard and beating the odds only to have this pathway to a better future shut down later on.

Maybe funds saved for college had to be spent to feed the family during the pandemic. Maybe there are younger siblings or an ailing elder to care for. It could be any one of a hundred reasons that block a student’s ability to go away for an advanced education. But our Net Blazers aren’t waiting for the world to right itself. Click below to see how they are preparing to be ready with new skills as the world gets back to business, global business that is.

This cap and gown suits her fine, thank you very much!

Meet Nthabeleng M., Infinite Family Net Buddy from 2012-2014. Nthabeleng grew up four hours north of Johannesburg in the remote North West village called Bodibe. But her source of support during those difficult high school years lived in Long Island, NY. Today, her Video Mentor, Linda J. still lives in Long Island and she is still guiding Nthabeleng!

What do they discuss most these days? How to find a two-year internship so she can finish her “practical” qualifications in Human Resource Management. Finding a company that offers on-the-job training is no small task under regular conditions, not to mention during a pandemic with most businesses still operating remotely. But we're not worried. Having witnessed Nthabeleng’s persistence and dedication first hand, we know she will find the opportunity she needs to overcome this challenge, just like all her others.

Sleds in South Africa? In Spring?

It’s springtime in South Africa complete with fresh green grass growing. So, what’s up with the sleds on the lawn? While we are sure these metal “sleds” would slide just fine down any snow-covered hill, in South Africa they work even better overhead as sun shades on the top of our LaunchPads!

Preparation for shipping has begun! This means that it won’t be just spring flowers that announce new beginnings - a bunch of new Net Buddies in Alexandra Township are also looking forward to new video mentorships after their October break. In the meantime, click below to see how our Net Buddies view their pending expansion.

"When I was studying the Cold War at school, Mary-Jo told me everything she knows about the subject. She gave me extra knowledge.                                                                                            ~Net Buddy Dingani
