Keeping In Touch - July 2024

Here Comes the Sun

Temperatures in Johannesburg and Cape Town may have been in single digits for the last while but, in their bright yellow hooded sweaters, our Net Buddies have been looking and feeling like sunshine!

It’s a tradition – and a real big deal - for Matrics (students in the 12th grade) across the country to have a special item of clothing to mark their final year in school but, of course, that’s harder in the communities where our Net Buddies live. There’s no way Infinite Family’s teens would be among the lucky ones if it wasn’t for the generous donations of our Infinite Family and we can’t thank you enough for helping them to keep both warm AND super cool - with "Matric 2024" stitched on their right arm.

Emblazoned on their backs are the words: Resilient, Resourceful and Responsible for my future. Talk about proudly wearing their intentions!

Over to them ….

A Gift from Rutgers

For many years now, Infinite Family has been happy to host a group of Rutgers’ students from the Graduate School of Education who spend each July visiting and working with South African schools and NGOs, including our teams and Net Buddies at Nkosi’s Haven in Johannesburg and Khayelitsha outside Cape Town.

It’s such a special, eye-opening opportunity for our Net Buddies and team to interact with engaging and thoughtful young adults from the USA who have such different life experiences from their own. They’ve shared stories, developed new skills and, as always, it has been an inspiring time that’s left everyone energized and uplifted. Thank you, Rutgers GSE. We love you!

MMM-Malva Pudding

A flavorful note from our Founder, Amy Stokes

Aside from their passion for education in under-resourced communities, and their interest in the work we do at Infinite Family, one of the reasons we think that Dr. Darren Clarke likes to bring his Rutgers students to SA every year is his love (make that obsession) with a local dish: Malva Pudding. :)

I started making it 21 years ago, after we adopted our South African son, Calder, and it’s been a family favorite ever since. Sharing it with our Rutgers friends has been a joy and, if it was ever possible for all the members of our Infinite Family to share a meal together, it would most definitely be on the menu.  Until that day comes, click here for the recipe I use if you’d like to try it for yourself. Thank you for being our Infinite Family

I want to thank Infinite Family for giving us this special gift [...] because it has a nice bright colour that brings light in darkness.  ~ A Net Buddy at Nkosi's Haven
