What it Takes

Lekhuleni’s Story: What It Takes to Make the Top 1%

Last week, something wonderful landed in our inbox — a video from Lekhuleni, one of our Net Buddies in Alexandra, South Africa. She sent it without being asked, without prompting, just because she wanted to share something that matters to her: what it takes to work hard and reach the top 1% of her class. 🌟

You can watch it here ☝️

What Lekhuleni describes in her own words is dedication. What she doesn’t describe is just how far she has already come. The obstacles our teens in Alexandra face would have derailed most of us — repeatedly, and at a much older age. But Lekhuleni keeps going. 💪

For the past three years, she has worked with her Video Mentor Paula — and that relationship has made all the difference. Together they’ve worked through pain, built resilience, and cultivated a clear-eyed vision for her future: university, a career, economic independence, and the freedom to choose her own path. ❤️

This is a big year for Lekhuleni. She is focused and working hard to earn the marks she needs to secure her university place. Our whole Infinite Family is cheering her on — and we are quietly working to build new forms of support for her and her peers, so that even if the systems that are supposed to reward her hard work fall short, as they have before, we will be ready to step in.

She knows our global community believes in her. What she doesn’t yet know is just how hard we’re working to make sure her efforts are rewarded.

That’s what Infinite Family does. That’s why your support matters.
