Today we celebrate I Am a Mentor Day—honoring the mentors who share their time, wisdom, and experience to transform young lives.
At Infinite Family, video mentoring bridges the gap between where our South African teens are growing up and where they want to be. Our volunteer Video Mentors from around the world connect weekly via the Internet with teens living in poverty-stricken townships and rural communities, helping them develop resilience, resourcefulness, and responsibility as they work toward self-reliance.
The impact is remarkable. Since 2008, 95% of Infinite Family’s mentored Matric students have qualified for advanced education, 20% higher than South Africa’s achievement rate. In addition, 84% of Infinite Family’s Matric students have qualified for top-tier universities, 24% higher than the South African achievement rate. Our teens become the first in their families to attend college or university, creating opportunities their parents never had.
The Gift Is You
You don’t need special credentials—just the willingness to share your experience and expertise. Two-thirds of Video Mentors continue beyond their first year of required commitment—30% have stayed involved more than 3 years and more than one-fifth have stayed engaged more than 4 years. The relationships forged between mentors and our teens are often life-changing for both.
