Unity is Hard Work

Today, December 16th, South Africa observes the Day of Reconciliation—a public holiday established in 1995 after the end of apartheid, with the intention of fostering reconciliation and national unity. This year’s commemoration focuses on “Reaffirming Reconciliation for Future Generations”, underscoring the ongoing journey toward building an inclusive, equitable society.

While we take this day to commemorate the remarkable progress South Africa has made toward democracy and social cohesion, reconciliation isn’t a single event—it’s daily work for all of us, wherever we live.

Infinite Family’s Role in Building Unity

At Infinite Family, we’re proud to contribute to this ongoing work of reconciliation and opportunity-building. Since 2006, we’ve connected South African teens from historically under-resourced communities with video mentors from 25 countries around the world. Through our weekly video mentoring program, we help our teens develop essential skills in education, career preparation, technology literacy, communication, and life success.

Our approach recognizes that true reconciliation requires more than remembrance—it demands active investment in creating pathways to opportunity. By equipping our teens with the skills, technology access, and global perspective they need to succeed, we’re helping them become the first generation in their families to attend university and enter the formal workforce.

Measurable Impact

The results speak to the power of sustained mentorship and support:

  • Since 2008, 95% of Infinite Family’s mentored 12th-grade students have qualified for advanced education—20% higher than South Africa’s national achievement rate
  • 84% have qualified for top-tier universities—24% higher than the national rate
  • Our teens gain access to opportunities that create pathways to economic stability and social mobility

Forging New Futures Together

On this Day of Reconciliation, we recommit to our mission of preparing South African teens for success in school, work, and life. We invite you to join us in this daily work of building unity, creating opportunity, and forging new futures—because reconciliation isn’t just about healing the past; it’s about actively building a more equitable world for the next generation.
