Wild Dog Wisdom: The Value of Teamwork

African wild dogs are the most efficient hunters in Africa and targeted prey rarely escapes. Wild dogs hunt in formidable, cooperative packs of 6 to 20. The dogs have a peculiar rather playful ceremony that bonds them for a common purpose and initiates each hunt. They start circulating among the other pack members vocalizing and touching until they getexcited and are ready to hunt in an organised, cooperative manner. Some of the dogs run close to the prey, while others follow behind, taking over when the leader tires. Only excellent teamwork ensures the survival of the pack and each dog understands the part it has to play.

The same principle applies to humans who are part of a team. Teamwork is essential in today’s rough-and-tumble world – particularly for tasks and projects that are complex and require multiple skill sets to be accomplished. A team effort can produce more, have greater influence, and have longer-lasting results. When you are part of a team you have to take on the identity of the team. Remember the ultimate goal of a team can only be achieved if everyone knows exactly what is expected of them, what you can contribute to the team and if there is a balance between the task and the process.

“United we stand, divided we fall”, it is the secret behind every success story. Living life abundantly is a team effort. We can all realise our dreams and goals at an accelerated rate by using a little teamwork! Simply stated, it is less me and more we!
